Support Lighthouse International and help people with vision loss live independent, safe and productive lives.
For many people with vision loss, reading anything may be nearly impossible.
That was the case for Fred Quick, who lost his sight in 1974 after the nerve endings in his eyes were severed during a tragic car accident. As expected, the road to recovery was tough. Fred first came to Lighthouse International in 1975 to take his high school equivalency exam, which allowed him to enroll in college. While Fred went on to have a successful career in commercial real estate, he always knew technology was his calling. That’s why, in 2000, he came back to Lighthouse as an assistive technology instructor. Since then, Fred has been helping clients who are visually impaired learn to use accessible technology to improve their day-to-day lives.
Through Fred’s assistive technology program at Lighthouse International, clients with vision impairment learn how to use the computer, internet, email and vision-enhancing devices. “I really enjoy meeting someone who is basically in the same situation I was in years ago – newly blind and not knowing what technology can do to help,” he says.
We are so appreciative to have teachers like Fred--and supporters like YOU-- who can make such a difference in the lives of people with vision loss.
