Social Services Department & Dr. Lorraine Marchi/NAVH Client Assistance Program
Lighthouse International is a beacon of hope for people of all ages facing the life-altering challenges of vision loss. Understanding the multifaceted impact of vision loss is an ongoing process and working through this process may create stress, fear, depression and anxiety, as well as changes in family relationships, work and independence. Coping with vision loss can be difficult and present overwhelming emotions, especially for someone who has been recently diagnosed. While anxiety, depression and fear are not inevitable consequences of vision loss, they are quite common and treatable.
The Social Services Department at Lighthouse International provides services to assist people with the challenges of and adjustment to vision loss. These services include:
- Social service assessments
- Individual Psychotherapy
- Individual and family counseling
- Support groups through the Dr. Lorraine Marchi/NAVH Client Assistance Program
- Vocational Rehabilitation support groups for Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH) clients
- Crisis intervention
- Benefit linkage and referrals to other services
- Links to community resources
- Advocacy, and educational materials
All of these services enable clients and patients to access a wide range of services that meet their psychological, social and vision health needs.
The Social Services Department is professionally staffed by licensed social workers who have years of experience in working with people with vision impairment and understand the impact and challenges of adjusting to vision loss.
