Participate in Research
Vision Research
Our Vision Research Laboratories have several research projects investigating visual function in individuals with both normal and impaired vision. All of the studies are non-invasive, and involve easy-to-perform tasks. The studies, mostly performed using state-of-the-art hardware and software, use tasks that range from detecting or discriminating computer-generated patterns to reading computer-generated text. Most of our subjects find the studies engaging, and often return to participate again!
Help us develop better ways of assessing impaired vision and devise new ways for people with impaired vision to overcome their vision problems. These projects use participants of all ages and visual abilities. To participate, contact Dr. Aries Arditi at (212) 821-9500 or e-mail at aarditi@lighthouse.org
Social Research
Our Social Research department has several research projects that are investigating social and psychological processes that influence the functioning and adaptation of people of all ages who are visually impaired. The information we learn from our participants helps us learn more about the process of dealing with vision loss. Findings from studies will be useful in developing and improving Vision Rehabilitation Services . Many people who have participated in our studies have said they liked the opportunity to talk about their experiences.
General Requirements for Participating in Our Research
All participants of all experiments have to be at least 18 years old. No test can be done until a written consent form is read and signed. Participants who wear glasses or contact lenses should always bring the latest corrections to the study.
Some of our research projects are funded clinical studies. Qualified patients will be paid for their participation upon completion of the experiments. Other projects are in the developmental phase. Participants of these projects will work on a voluntary basis. Check each project for further details.
