The American Optometric Association honored Dr. Bruce Rosenthal at the Vision Rehabilitation Awards Reception.

On June 18, 2010, Dr. Bruce Rosenthal, Chief of Low Vision Programs at Lighthouse International, was presented with the Vision Care Award at the American Optometric Association’s [AOA] Vision Rehabilitation Section 2010 Awards Reception. The Vision Care Award is given to an optometrist who has demonstrated exceptional services to the community and the field of vision rehabilitation services.

"It is extremely gratifying to receive the highest honor in low vision from your own colleagues as well as a national professional organization,” says Dr. Rosenthal. “I am fortunate to be involved in the care of wonderful patients and to work with great professionals and an organization like Lighthouse International. It has been great to see the interns and residents I have trained become the leaders in the field of low vision. I look forward to an exciting future.”

Dr. Rosenthal has been serving the low vision community at Lighthouse International since 1994 and is an adjunct professor in the department of Ophthalmology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York. He has also served as the chair of the Low Vision Sections of the AOA, the American Academy of Optometry, and the Low Vision Diplomate Program. Dr. Rosenthal also helped found AMD Alliance International, serving as the chair of the board and International Scientific Advisory Committee.
