On August 25, 2010, over 90 people were in attendance for Lighthouse International’s LITE Seminar: iPad, iPhone, I Vote. The accessible technology seminar was hosted by Dorrie Rush, Marketing Director of Accessible Technology at Lighthouse International. The event featured a panel discussion of iPad and iPhone users about Apple’s built-in accessibility features, Zoom and Voice Over. Two Apple Store specialists from New York City, Katherine Allen and Carlos Cruz, were in attendance to answer everyone’s questions. Representatives from NYC’s Board of Elections were also present and showed off the city’s accessible voting machines. Attendees were able to try out the voting machines and learn about their accessible features.
"Thank you to the approximately 90 people who turned out to learn about Universal Access and how it just might change your life if you’re visually impaired,” said Dorrie Rush. “It seemed no surprise that [the] attendees had a keen interest in learning about New York City’s new accessible ballot-marking devices and how they are capable of restoring a piece of independence -- and privacy -- that some have lost because they don’t see as well as they once did.”
