(New York, New York) May 10, 2007 Lighthouse International (LI) held it's 35th Annual POSH sale over Mother's Day weekend. At the opening night Preview Sale, LI President and CEO Tara Cortes, PhD, RN, was front and center greeting such guests as Joan Rivers, Kim Cattrall, Sasha Lazard, Rita Gam and Jamie deRoy along with more than 250 of the city's most fashionable, devoted and eager brand name and vintage shoppers. They got first look at over 30,000 donated items of the city's new and gently used women's, men's and children's garments and accessories, including those from the closets of such style setters as Lauren Bacall, Gloria Vanderbilt, Grace Mirabella, the late Nan Kempner as well as from the stock rooms of top brand name designers. The sale benefits Lighthouse International, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to preserving vision and to providing critically needed health care services to help people of all ages overcome the challenges of vision loss.

Vogue Editor Hamish Bowles was one of the first in the door, making a beeline to the 100 couture Nan Kempner outfits with an estimated original value of over $500,000. He literally stripped gowns off mannequins and carried armloads of the prized collectables into the cafeteria to sort through them. He wound up buying over 15 pieces by Valentino and Yves St. Laurent for $5,700. Bowles has a collection, which he lends to museums, including the Metropolitan and FIT.

POSH was Chaired by Helen O'Hagan with Coordinating Chairs Dorothy Cohen, and Peggy Kaufman, Dianne Collins and Myron Lea. Committee Members and volunteers included Maria Cooper Janis, Diane Fisher, Enid Nemy, Roberta Sandeman, Cynthia Maltese, Anne-Marie Schiro,Marcy Macdonald, Marilyn Malkin, Pia Lindstrom, Sondra Blank, Nell Yperifanos and LI staff and Board members Roger Goldman (Chairman of the Board), Laine Siklos, Mady Schuman, Rhianna Quinn, Leslie Gottlieb, Kurt Willett and Nicole Garvey. Corporate sponsors included Barbetta, Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd, Loehmann's, Walter C Maffei Architect, Juli B., The New York Times, The New York Observer, and Titan Cares.

The 5-day sale drew in more than 5,000 serious shoppers young and old, including Michèle Gerber Klein, Peter Rogers, Alix Boulud, (Daniel Boulud's daughter bought her prom dress there.) Jim Mitchell, Hope Salinger, Broadway producer Rick Hobard, Dolly Borgiajia, Kay Wren, New York Commissioner for the UN Consular Corps Livia Silva, Albert D'Annibale, Pamela Grayson, Elaine Sargent, Dasha Krasniakova, Jen Rubin, Samantha Starr, Jason Grant, Barbara Siegel, Joel Allen, Alexandra Morf, Heidi Roberts, Clay Fisher, Sandriel Frank, Caroline Cameron and Fabienne Leny. Valerie Smaldone, Midday host of WLTW 106.7, was on hand to interview supporters and raffle off several Broadway tickets.

The most intense treasure hunters climbed the stairs to the special cache in The Salon, which held exquisite high-end pieces, such as Armani purses, Jimmy Choo shoes, Gucci clothing and an expansive fur collection. From there the many rooms and hallways contained troves of pieces donated by designers such as Adrienne Vittadini, Anne Klein New York, Bill Blass, Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Charlie Rocket, Christian A. New York, Christian Dior, Coach, Dunhill, Hanes, Hanro USA, John Anthony, Laundry by Shelli Segal, Limited Editions for Her, Manolo Blahnik, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Miriam Haskell, Pink, POLO/Ralph Lauren, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tocca, Tod's, Turnbull & Asser, Vineyard Vines, Wee Me and Zac Posen.

The event raised a whopping $680,000 to help the 102-year old Lighthouse International enable people with low vision and blindness to enjoy safe, independent and productive lives. Bravo to the army of volunteers who worked a full year collecting, organizing, pricing, displaying, marketing and selling the merchandise!
