The purpose of Physician Outreach at Lighthouse International is to inform physicians and their staff in the New York metropolitan area about services available for patients with permanent vision loss and to help facilitate referrals to Lighthouse low vision and vision rehabilitation services.

The Need:

As people live longer with eye conditions such as diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and cataracts, the number of patients with partial sight is increasing dramatically. While strides in medical technology have helped patients maintain a significant amount of their vision (e.g. anti-veg F treatments for macular degeneration), many patients may still have problems with daily visual function. When vision cannot be fully restored through medicine, surgery, regular glasses or contact lenses, Lighthouse services can help.

Method:

Through in-person visits with doctors and staff, we are establishing personal contacts with physicians and their staff members to increase awareness of and referrals to specialized services to meet the specific needs of an individual with vision loss. Through partnerships with physicians, we can add to the continuum of care for patients with vision impairment.

Next Steps:

Please use the Physician Outreach form if you would like us to visit your office, if you need materials to help facilitate access to Lighthouse International's services for your patients, or if you would like to refer a physician to Lighthouse International. For more information and further details on our Physician Outreach program, visit our Program Details page.
