Personal:
Artie Elefant is the founder of the Tandem Bike Program for Achilles International, which provides athletes with disabilities a community of support. At the age of 47, Artie lost most of his vision due to retinitis pigmentosa. Determined to live a full and healthy life, Artie persevered and found solace in athletics. He has competed in a variety of events, including marathons, triathlons, and tandem rides. In 2008, he partnered with Goldman Sachs to bring a mini-tandem bike event for teenagers to Lighthouse International's Youth Program. This is the second year Artie and Mark Carhart will be riding together in Double Up 4 Vision’s 24-Hour Tandem Bike Relay.
Why I'm Riding:
"Double Up 4 Vision is great because if you lost your sight like I did and had biking taken away from you, it’s a great thing to be given back to you."
