LV02: The Low Vision Megacourse

Course Description
This three-day course provides information on evaluating and prescribing for adult patients with low vision resulting from a full range of conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes-related eye diseases, glaucoma and cataracts. Upon completion of this educational activity, the learner should have a better understanding of how to review, diagnose and provide vision rehabilitation options for adults with low vision, and will be able to apply this knowledge in his/her medical practice.

Target Audience
Ophthalmologists, optometrists

Needs Assessment
This course provides information that allows a physician to meet the needs of a growing population of older adults who are presenting with low vision-related functional difficulties that cannot be addressed by medical treatment (surgery or medication). Understanding the options available to address these functional needs - whether in the physician's office or by appropriate referral - will increase the physician's understanding of vision rehabilitation methods and, ultimately, his/her ability to provide better patient care.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, the learner should have a better understanding of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation options available to increase functional visual ability of patients with low vision-related conditions, and will be able to apply this knowledge in his/her medical practice.
