Lighthouse International believes that O & Ms and VRTs are professionals as they have a unique body of knowledge in which their practice is grounded. We believe there should be a standard of competency required for them to deliver services. We believe this level of competency is proven through certification which should be required for practice in any setting. If this credential is not/cannot be required then we support another means of assuring competent practice which means licensure.
We strongly believe it is the role and responsibility of the professionals involved and their trade association, AER, to take the lead to advocate for licensure. At this time, we continue our support of certification by ACVREP, in absence of licensure of O & Ms and VRTs, and require our own staff to have or to seek certification to remain employed at Lighthouse International.
