LIGHTHOUSE INTERNATIONAL TO HOLD 7TH ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC AND DINNER AT OLD OAKS COUNTRY CLUB
Heisman Trophy winner James Plunkett to be honored
Lighthouse International's Golf Classic honoring Heisman Trophy winner James Plunkett will take place on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. with golf registration and brunch at 10:30 am, and Tee-Off at 1:15 pm. Now in its 7th year, the event is expected to attract more than 100 players -- novice through scratch. All proceeds support Lighthouse International's mission of fighting vision loss though prevention, treatment and empowerment.
The event honors James Plunkett, a former American football quarterback who played collegiately for Stanford University, where he won the Heisman Trophy, and professionally for three National Football League teams: the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders. He led the Raiders to two Super Bowl victories (XV and XVIII). Mr. Plunkett is dedicated to the cause of fighting vision loss as his father was afflicted with progressive blindness and his mother was completely blind.
In addition to offering a spectacular day of challenging golf, the event will feature brunch, cocktails, a buffet dinner, silent auction and awards presentation. All players will receive a Brooks Brothers tournament shirt, cap and balls. According to Joel Mounty, Lighthouse Board Member and President of Mountco Construction and Development Corp., "It will be a wonderful day filled with great golf, fine food and celebration. The best thing is that all of the proceeds go to such a great cause. And our mission has become even more urgent as baby boomers age and diseases such as diabetes and macular degeneration affect millions. Also, golf has a following among people who are visually impaired and have learned to play despite their vision loss."
The event Co-Chairmen are Mr. Joel Mounty and Eugene F. Conroy. The Benefit Committee consists of Ted Francavilla, Acting President and CEO of Lighthouse International, John D'Agostino, Stephanie K. DeLong, Harry DiMarzo, Richard Feinbloom, Lino Garcia, Arlene R. Gordon, Lawrence Kessler, DMD, Stuart Koch, Joseph Petrillo, Rudy Riska, Bruce P. Rosenthal, OD, Barbara Saltzman, Nadine S. Schramm and Christopher Williams. Chairman of the Board is Roger O. Goldman.
Individual registration is $875. Teams of four can register to play at $3,350. Cocktails and Dinner only tickets are available at $275 each. There are also many levels of sponsorship opportunities. Rates include golf fees, golf carts and caddie assignments, pro shop and much more. All proceeds benefit Lighthouse International. A portion of the proceeds is tax deductible.
